Good Sunday to you and congratulations to all who made it through the 24 hour Read-A-Thon. Cassandra has come out from under the covers and explored the house. Turns out she is a very smart, affectionate and vocal cat. And she likes books. And she likes her furry black mouse.
The book, Vermeer in Bosnia by Lawrence Weschler, is a used copy I bought as a treat for myself after reading about his new book, Uncanny Valley. Weschler has been a favorite every since I read Mr Wilson’s Cabinet of Wonder. I also have a copy of Everything That Rises. It is a book I pick up when I want to be inspired.
I was also very please to see this list posted on the Guardian website. Many of my favorite authors are on it. And here is an interesting video about an Impossible Hamster. Are you following Occupy Wall Street events?
Welcome, Cassandra!!
:)
Awwwwww, she’s beautiful, Gavin :) Thanks for the cheer during the readathon!
You are very welcome, Wendy. Now all we have to do is find a pup that will get along with the cat!
Cassandra is pretty! I think I’ve heard of Everything that Rises but I don’t know what it’s about. I will definitely check it out, especially since you turn to it for inspiration.
Thanks, Vasilly. Everything That Rises is an odd and, I think, fascinating book.
What a beautiful kitty, and it sure does love its mousie. I love it when our cats literally slogger all over their toys. You find it abandoned in the middle of the living room all soaking wet.
I know, it’s kinda’ gross!
Thanks for sharing pictures of Cassandra! She’s cute!
Aw, she’s adorable!
Thanks, Nymeth!
Cassandra has good taste. Lawrence Weschler went to UCSC a few years before I did, and although I don’t know him personally, we were formed and shared a reverence for some of the same teachers. I happened to see a great interview with his friend novelist Mark Salzman at the L.A. library a few years back and the book they were discussing was Vermeer in Bosnia. Although I have it, I’m sorry to say I haven’t gotten to it yet. He’s actually coming back to town in early November to promote a new book, I think and I’m looking forward to seeing him again. Maybe he’s coming to your part of the world too. See him if you can, he’s an engaging speaker.
What a sleek little beauty. And what a lovely sophisticated name. Does she have her own shelves already too?
She is working on making space in Mr G’s office. Knocking things off the highest shelf so she has the best perch in the house!
