Once Upon A Time VI

Organized by Carl V.,  Once Upon A Time VI runs from March 20, 2012 through June 20, 2012.  It is a time to read and watch  fantasy, fairy tales, folklore and mythology.   I am joining Quest the Third, reading at least four books, one from each category, as well as reading or watching A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

#1 The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey – A fairy tale entwined in a historic novel.

#2 The Ten Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin – A rich fantasy intertwining Gods and Mortals.

#3 Ragnarok: The End of the Gods by A.S. Byatt – Norse myth retold by a master story-teller.

#4 Returning My Sister’s Face by Eugie Foster – A wonderful collection of Far Eastern folk-tales.

#5 The Last Dragon by Jane Yolen and Rebecca Guay.  A graphic novel mixing fantasy and folklore, beautifully illustrated in pen, ink and watercolor.

#6 The Dragons of Babel by Michael Swanwick.  I should have read this one years ago.  A blend of techno-steampunk, magic and mythology.
